Helicopter crashes in Meraux

A helicopter flipped after a rough landing this morning in Meraux, prompting
a response from emergency medical and rescue workers.
The crash occured near the 3200 block of East St. Bernard Highway, said St.
Bernard Parish Chief Deputy James Pohlmann. The accident site is just off
the highway, west of Archbishop Phillip M. Hannan Boulevard.
Luckily, though, the pilot, who was the lone occupant in the craft, was not
hurt, a relative of the man said.
"It appears that (the helicopter) ended up in the yard of a private
residence," Pohlmann said. "It's someone who owns about 10 acres."
Authorities have not yet publicly named the pilot of the helicopter, but a
relative of the man told a Times-Picayune reporter this morning that the man
took off in the craft, got only a few feet off the ground and decided it was
too windy to fly. When he landed, the helicopter somehow flipped.
The pilot's relative said the pilot walked away from the helicopter.
