Well put, John S.

Yep I'm still reading and rebuilding although the better half of the family
has decided not to come back to the parish.

WOC,

I'll answer on behalf of Jerry. You asked "why is he so negative about
everything." Well, where have you been living all your life? Sure, you can
try to see the bright side of things, but we're talkin' "St. Bernard parish"
here. Do I "really" need to go into our parish's history?..especially the
political side of things? Believe me, it's not a happy story to tell. But
I'll bet some now retired federal investigators could tell you some stories.
The bottom line is our elected leaders have always had something of an
ass-backwards way of doing things, a shadow of suspicion always seemed to
hover over projects that appeared good - and the good, honest, hardworking
people of St. Bernard have always been stuck with the stigma of "the parish"
- caused by the idiots we elected.

So, I can certainly understands Jer's negativism to be really that of
skepticism.

You then raise the issue of caring. So, if I understand this right, if
you've had to leave St. Bernard and can't return you're to toss your concern
and hopes for the parish in a trash can? Remember, apathy (not hate) is the
opposite of love. So, if Jerry truly doesn't care, he wouldn't waste his
time with all his comments. Even if his words are criticism, it's because
he still cares and hopes to see something better for St. Bernard - even if
he knows he'll never return. Guess it just goes to prove the old saying
"you can take the boy out of the parish, but you can't take the parish out
of the boy." That's something I've come to realize about myself.

The day you no longer see Jerry griping and complaining is when we'll all
know he no longer cares.

John Scurich
