Landrieu Announces $127M In Recovery Funds For La.

Grants will repair damage caused by 2005 storms.

WASHINGTON - United States Senator Mary Landrieu, D-La., today announced
that Louisiana will receive more than $127 million in federal funds to
continue repairing damage caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.
These grants will go to St. Bernard Parish, Plaquemines Parish, Cameron
Parish, the city of New Orleans and the city of Westwego to repair schools,
senior housing, law enforcement buildings and other municipal facilities.

"Nearly three years after hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the Gulf
Coast and left much of the New Orleans area underwater, the region is still
a long way from full recovery," Sen. Landrieu said. "These funds bring us
one step closer to restoring schools, homes, and public facilities that were
integral to the fabric of daily life on the Gulf Coast before the storms,
and will help our citizens reclaim what they lost following the hurricanes.

"The costs of rebuilding have been immense, and the recovery is still not
complete. We will continue to preserve and rebuild the Gulf Coast - but that
is no substitute for smart preparation, infrastructure investment and
emergency planning to ensure a disaster of this magnitude never has the
catastrophic impact of hurricanes Katrina and Rita."
