Landrieu Comments on Oil Spill in the Mississippi

 

WASHINGTON - United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today commented
on the oil spill early this morning in the Mississippi River at New Orleans.


Sen. Landrieu said:

"It is critical that this oil spill be cleaned up immediately and the river
be reopened. The Coast Guard has been quick to respond to the scene, and it
is my hope that the ongoing cleanup effort is quick and thorough. I am
encouraged that since immediately after the accident, steps have been taken
to help protect the city's water intake infrastructure and the marshland to
the south that hosts myriad wildlife. It is also crucial for our economy and
community to quickly restore navigation to the area."
