CHALMETTE, (AP) - St. Bernard Parish marked another milestone in its
recovery from Hurricane Katrina on Friday with an open house celebrating the
opening of 2 ballrooms at the St. Bernard Parish Civic Center.

Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Junior says the restoration of the
14,000-square-foot ballroom space was completed in three months.

Donald Bourgeois Junior, who oversees the operations of the facility, says
the ballrooms feature a newly designed sound and video system, decorative
bathrooms, flooring and drink stations, and a kitchen that will create new
economic opportunities for the parish.

The facility can hold 750 people for a seated event, about 1,100 for a
speech or large presentation and 1,500 for a mostly standing room only
event.

All but two buildings in St. Bernard were flooded after Hurricane Katrina
struck.
