state Sen. Walter Boasso denied Friday that he violated state campaign
finance reporting as a Democratic candidate for governor last fall.

The Louisiana Board of Ethics last week alleged that Boasso and his campaign
may have violated the law because they failed to itemize $1.19 million in
expenditures.

The payments were made to Shor Magnus Johnson, a Philadelphia advertising
firm. The campaign listed the spending as "media buys."

Boasso said he was out of the country when the board notified him that a
public hearing would be scheduled on the charge based on a complaint filed
by Scott Wilfong, a member of the Republican State Central Committee.

Boasso issued a statement Friday in which he said a report was filed in July
2007 listing all expenditures made.

"It listed who was paid, the amount and the purpose as required by the
Campaign Finance Disclosure Act. The campaign followed the reporting
requirements," Boasso said.

In the wake of the complaint, Boasso said his campaign filed "an amended
report immediately and took the most conservative approach to address this
technical issue" raised by Wilfong.
