Stepfather accused of raping 12-year-old
Girl told mother of attack, cops say Tuesday, August 12, 2008St. Bernard

A Chalmette man is accused of raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter,
authorities said. 

The man's name has not been released by the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's
Office to protect the identity of the girl. The man was booked Aug. 5 with
aggravated rape and aggravated incest, the Sheriff's Office said. 

The girl told detectives that the man called her into his room the night of
Aug. 5 so that she could help him clean the room. Instead, he raped her, she
told investigators. 

The girl called her mother at work that night and her mother reported the
attack to the Sheriff's Office, officials said. 

The man was at home when deputies arrived and was arrested, the Sheriff's
Office said. He later experienced an irregular heartbeat and told deputies
he had taken several narcotics before they arrived to take him into custody.


He was taken to University Hospital for treatment and later returned to St.
Bernard Parish Prison. He remained in custody Monday in lieu of $200,000
bond.
