[StBernard] Implementation of St. Bernard garbage collection fee suspended

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Jr. suspends implementation of
the garbage collection fee 

 

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Jr. issued an executive order
Wednesday suspending the implementation of the $20 monthly garbage
collection fee.

 

"Due to recent discoveries and ongoing review of the residential waste fees
that St. Bernard Parish  has incurred relative to the SDT disposal practices
it is believed that a prudent measure would be to suspend the implementation
of said fee until such time that the collection and disposal issues are
resolved," Taffaro said.

 

"It is seen as potentially burdensome to the general public to impose such a
fee without assuring the appropriate fiscal accountability and fulfilling
our fiduciary responsibilities," Taffaro said.

 

According to his executive order that he discussed during Wednesday's
sanitation budget hearing with the Parish Council Finance Committee, Taffaro
said the $20 garbage collection fee will be suspended until such time that
the questionable costs are satisfied or the ordinance is modified or
repealed.
