	HEARTLAND PAYMENT SYSTEMS REPORTS HACK 

	This week, Heartland Payment Systems disclosed a security breach in
its system. The company processes credit and debit card transactions. Card
numbers, expiration dates and cardholder names may have been exposed. Social
Security numbers and PINs were not breached. 

	

	The breach could affect tens of millions of cardholders. It could be
bigger than the breach that hit TJX a couple of years ago. Damages could top
$500 million. 

	

	Heartland protects its data with encryption. However, data must be
unencrypted when payment authorization is requested. Hackers targeted the
one point in the system where the data is unencrypted. Check your credit
card and bank statements carefully!
