Goodbye MR-GO: Work begins to close shortcut to Gulf of Mexico

A contractor on Friday began dumping the rocks that eventually will be piled
high enough to plug the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet shipping channel in
St. Bernard Parish, the Corps of Engineers said.

 

Jer responds: 

 

Eh, are they gonna plug up the Mississippi just in case a Cat 5 comes up its
gut? BTW, while they're at it, are they gonna dig a big hole somewhere else
and bury that huge, overly wide and deep one that they built originally?
Nope. They gonna put a "monument of cement" at the entrance.

 

Hopefully, wind doesn't go over or around concrete, knowing counterclockwise
wind of disastrous proportions can cover hundreds of miles across.
