ST. BERNARD, La. - Residents of St. Bernard Parish filed a petition with the
secretary of state to recall parish president Craig Taffaro.

The residents are upset at how quickly the parish is demolishing homes.

Taffaro said that at the end of the day, the job is not about him, or the
council or other lawmakers - it is about rebuilding a better st. bernard.

"This is about the hardworking citizens of St. Bernard parish, and they
deserve what waits for us all at the end of this recovery and growth - a
better St. Bernard parish, free from the political oppression of the past
and the freedom to be proud of our spirit-filled, god-fearing,
community-based network of individuals and families who just want to be
home," Taffaro said.

The group now has 180 days to collect just over 8000 signatures in order to
put the petition to a popular vote.
