Lumber company upgrades facility at St. Bernard port
by From CityBusiness Staff Reports
An $8 million project is under way to move a local lumber company into a new
port facility in St. Bernard Parish.

F.H. Myers Construction of Harahan is building a new facility for New
Orleans-based Lisco at the Arabi Terminal of the St. Bernard Port, Harbor
and Terminal District.

"The old facility has to be at least 20 to 30 years old and was rundown. The
relocation is a big improvement," F.H. Myers project manager Martin Steib
said.

The project will include a 73,000-square-foot warehouse and a
2,300-square-foot transit shed. The new facility will be across the street
from the company's existing location.

The relocation is part of $30 million in investments the St. Bernard port
made last year to attract more cargo and industry to the parish. Lisco owns
New Orleans-based Robinson Lumber Co., which exports lumber worldwide.

Work on the project began in January 2008 and was expected to be completed
this month.
