Isleno Fiesta to be held Saturday and Sunday

Traditional food, crafts & music at Islenos Museum Complex in St. Bernard



The Los Islenos Heritage and Cultural Society will hold its 33rd annual
family-oriented Isleno Fiesta Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 on the
grounds of the Los Islenos Museum Complex, 1345-1357 Bayou Road in St.
Bernard Village. There will be parking available and shuttle service
available.



Fiesta events will take place Saturday from 12 noon until 9 p.m. and on
Sunday from 12 noon until 8 p.m.



Antiguos Coros y Danzas de Ingenio, a well-respected folkloric group from
Ingenio in Gran Canaria, will perform the traditional folk music of the
Canary Islands. They will also perform great jazz and modern music.
Scheduled performances are Saturday, March 21st from 1 to 3 p.m. and Sunday,
March 22nd from 2 to 4 p.m. This group performs regularly in festivals
throughout Europe. Other bands will include August Rush, Fredy Omar and the
Top Cats.



Fiesta 2009 will feature a menu of traditional Spanish food including
paella, empanadas, croquetas and flan. Fried seafood platters, poor boy
sandwiches, gumbo, grilled and raw oysters are among the traditional
Louisiana dishes which will be served. Admission is free and parking will be
available on the museum complex grounds and the former Beauregard Middle
School. Shuttle buses will be provided by SBURT and Gulf Coast Bank.
