Out of jail a scant three days, a man was booked Friday in connection with
the carjacking of a pizza delivery vehicle in Chalmette, authorities said.

Richard Ford, 49, allegedly grabbed a woman delivering pizzas on Pakenham
Drive and demanded the keys to her vehicle around 2 p.m. Friday. She
complied and he drove off in her vehicle, with about $40 in pizza sales
money in the vehicle, the St. Bernard Parish Sheriffs Office said.

The woman was not harmed. Authorities said Ford did not use a weapon.

Deputies responded to the report of a carjacking and spotted the vehicle in
eastern New Orleans, where they pulled Ford over in a market parking lot in
the 9700 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

The Sheriffs Office news release said when Ford was arrested there was $15
left in the stolen vehicle and that Ford had allegedly purchased a large
beer and other items.

Ford had been released Tuesday from jail in St. Bernard Parish where he had
spent about a year serving a sentence for burglary, authorities said.

Ford has been booked with carjacking and is being held in St. Bernard Parish
without bond.
