but a company
spokesman said this week that the move will allow Wal-Mart to make a
decision "fairly shortly on our future in Chalmette."

Parish President Craig Taffaro has budgeted an additional $500,000 in
sales-tax revenue this year in anticipation of the store's return.

"We'll soon know whether Wal-Mart was using the issue as a shield or if this
was a real issue for them," Taffaro told the Parish Council last week. "Now
that the trailer has been moved, the ball's back in their court."

That was a very cautious statement by the Wal-Mart spokesman and I get the
impression it
does not bode well for the store's reopening.

I don't think the trailers were a shield, but rather, the company didn't
want to create havoc with the only health care facility in the parish.

The ball may be in Wal-Mart's court but I just have a feeling they are going
to bat it back.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong in my impressions and that they do reopen the
store so parish residents will have a place to purchase sheets/linens and
other dry goods they now have to drive out of the parish for.
