Art in April Festival will be April 24-25

Festival Committee announces the 2009 Arts Festival theme: "Building on
History"



The 13th Annual Art in April Festival will be held Friday, April 24th and
Saturday, April 25th at the historic St. Bernard Courthouse, 1101 W. Judge
Perez Drive in Chalmette. The festivities will kick off with a ticketed
event for patrons from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by a free outdoor pubic concert
at 7 to 9:30 p.m. featuring Leif Pedersen's 1944 Swing Band Orchestra. The
Fine Arts display will be held in the lobby of the courthouse where the
limited edition collectable poster for 2009 will be available for sale.



On Saturday, April 25th, the festival will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This
year's theme "Building on History" will be featured in the winning art work,
an oil painting by Janet Attaway of Kenilworth Plantation. Visitors to the
festival may also meet and learn from one of several historic characters
important to St. Bernard's History on the grounds during the event. The
outdoor festival will feature live music, crafts, garden exhibits a
children's pavilion including storytelling, hands on arts and crafts, magic
shows, the Aqua Van, educational exhibits, Radio Disney and much more. There
will also be live music, and local food.



Limited space is still available for St. Bernard restaurants, caterers,
civic organizations or crafters that would like to register for a booth. For

The Art in April Festival is sponsored by St. Bernard Parish Government, St.
Bernard Parish Schools, St. Bernard Parish Art Guild supported by a grant
from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development,
Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the
Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the St. Tammany Commission
on Cultural Affairs.
