Wet then Wild Crawfish Festival a Success

Good weekend weather draws huge crowds in Chalmette

Adverse weather conditions on Thursday and Friday fueled patrons to trounce
on the grounds of the Louisiana Crawfish Festival Saturday and Sunday,
Publicity Spokesman Fred Billiot said.

Nearly record crowds emerged under bright sunny skies to enjoy great music,
wonderful crawfish dishes and thrilling rides at the festival that was
housed on the St. Bernard Parish Government Complex grounds.

"Our festival revelers from St. Bernard and the entire metro area look
forward every year knowing that the Louisiana Crawfish Festival appears to
be the catalyst that puts the Festival Season in high gear," Billiot said.
"We were certain once the weather cleared that we would see the thousands of
smiling faces there to enjoy themselves. And, they did do that!"

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Jr. said the festival is just
another sign of the Recovery and Growth of St. Bernard. The festival, which
was not held in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina, was held at the site of the
future Lowe's a few blocks away in 2007, but it returned to the government
grounds in 2008 as Taffaro promised. Taffaro ensured the grounds were clear
of all residential trailers so the site could resume its role in hosting
such a key community event.

Attempting to maneuver and navigating through the crowds this year was no
easy chore, Billiot said. Hot items like boiled crawfish, crawfish bread,
crawfish jambalaya, crawfish fried rice and others were sought after during
the entire event.

Entertainers rocked the stage area with Cajun, POP, Oldies and Rock Music.
Jockeys mounted their favorite Crawfish and sprinted or slid across the
finish line during the races.

Festival Chairman Cisco Gonzales added, "From myself and every volunteer out
here, we just want to tell the entire public that supports us every year
simply, 'Thanks.' Besides our local patrons, I spoke to visitors from cities
all around the wonderful state of Louisiana and the travelers from New York,
New Jersey, Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, California, Missouri and Florida
just to name a few. We thank God for this blessed weekend."
