Ground Breaking of Aycock Barn, Fire Stations No. 6 and 8 held June 25

Three ceremonies mark growth in St. Bernard Parish

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Jr., along with FEMA and a
host of officials, celebrated Recovery and Growth in St. Bernard Parish with
three Ground Breaking ceremonies, marking the beginning of construction at
two fire stations and the Aycock Barn to be the site of a proposed, open air
seafood market in Arabi.

"Each ground breaking is another opportunity to celebrate our growth and
reestablishing critical assets to their proper state," said President
Taffaro, who stood next to the area where pilings are on the ground at Fire
Station No. 6.

The construction on Fire Station No. 6 will cost $1,597,500 to be paid for
with FEMA funds and insurance proceeds. It should be completed near the end
of the year. Aegis Construction is the contractor, and Stuart Consulting and
L-7 Architects are the firms responsible for the design for Fire Station No.
6, located at 4119 E. Judge Perez Drive, near Paul Drive in Meraux

The construction on Fire Station No. 8 at 613 Bayou Road near Torres Drive
in Poydras will cost about $1,739,000 to be paid for with FEMA funds and
insurance proceeds. It should be completed by the end of February 2010.
Ja-Roy Construction is the contractor, and Stuart Consultants and L-7
Architects are the firms responsible for the design.

Three St. Bernard Fire Stations are completed: one on Aycock Street in
Arabi, the Central station at Packenham Drive in Chalmette and one on Bayou
Road in Verrett. The others are operating out of temporary quarters. Fire
Chief Thomas Stone said these two are the final of the remaining seven
stations to hold construction ground breaking ceremonies to mark progress of
critical emergency service for residents.

In addition to the fire stations, Aycock Barn is being demolished so it can
be rebuilt to be used as a public Seafood/Farmers Market on Aycock Street in
Arabi. The project, being paid for with FEMA funds, will cost $1,347,171.
The building at 409 Aycock Street in Arabi will be demolished first and
construction should start on Nov. 5. It should be completed by the end of
January. The architect is Sizeler Architects.

Jon D. Risinger is the project manager for both of the fire stations and for
the Aycock Barn project for CDM, which provides oversight for all
FEMA-funded projects. Gil Carlin of the St. Bernard Parish Department of
Public Works is the project manager and resident inspector for both of the
fire stations, and Keith LaGrange Jr. is the parish resident inspector for
the Aycock Barn project.
