2009 Redfish Cup July 31 to Aug. 2 in Chalmette before ESPN2 cameras

Public invited to Tailgate Party and to join in several events at Gulf
Outlet Marina in Chalmette

 

After record breaking crowds and successful events in 2004, 2005 and 2008,
the Redfish Cup Tournament filmed for ESPN 2 will return to Chalmette, LA.
This year the tournament and festival will be held at Gulf Outlet Marina off
Paris Road on Friday, July 31st - Sunday, August 2nd.  Last year, it was
held at Breton Sound Marina in St. Bernard.

 

St. Bernard Parish, the only stop in Louisiana, is one of the five stops
selected to host the tournament where 54 teams of some of the best
professional anglers from around the country compete at the Chalmette event
for $50,000 to the 1st place team. The event will feature a "Tailgate Party"
festival each day with local food, live music, children's activities,
exhibits, sports related promotional items and the live weigh-in each day at
3 p.m. Returning again this year is the popular "Splash Dog" competition
where dogs compete for the longest jump.

 

The Committee will bring back the White Boot Decorating Contest and the
popular Pirogue Races which was very popular among the local businesses.
There will also be a children's area with fishing games, casting contest,
face painting and crafts.

White Boot Decorating Contest

 

Enter the White Boot Decorating Contest on behalf of your company, club or
civic organization. The rules are:

*	$25 entry fee (one boot included in fee) 
*	A redfish must be included somewhere in the design.
*	Designs should be creative AND tasteful.
*	Entries must be submitted by July 30 at 10a.m. to the Civic Center
Ballroom.
*	All entries become the property of the Tourist Commission.

 

Winners will be announced Sunday, Aug. 2 on the Redfish Weigh-In Stage.

Awards will be given for: Angler's Choice, Most Creative, Most Unusual and
Overall Best. For more information call Polly Boudreaux at 554-7134 or

Casting Contest

 

The St. Bernard Sportsman's League will sponsor a FREE children's rod and
reel casting contest to be held in conjunction with the Big Easy Redfish Cup
in Chalmette. 

 

*	The contest will be held Aug. 1-2 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on
each day at the Gulf Outlet Marina.
*	There will be two age categories; 9-years-old and younger and 10- to
15-years-old.
*	The League will provide rods and reels with weighted, plastic
casting plugs for use in the contest (no hooks will be involved).  Each
contestant must register prior to casting. 
*	Contestants will get five casts to sink the plug into floating rings
anchored in the bayou.  
*	Prizes will be given out each day around official weigh-in time.
Prize winners will be drawn from the registered children each day.  

 

 

2-Man Pirogue Race

 

The event will be at the Gulf Outlet Marina, Aug. 1. Preliminary races will
begin at 10 a.m., and the finals will be held at 1 p.m.

 

*	Ducks Unlimited will coordinate races.
*	Pirogue and paddles will be provided.
*	$20 entry fee per team.
*	ONLY 16 teams can register.
*	Team members must be 16 years or older.
*	Bring your fan club!
*	First place prize is a pirogue.
