Chad Bower / Eyewitness News

CHALMETTE, La. - Deputies arrested a Honduran man wanted for attempted
murder Tuesday in a revenge plot where he allegedly shot at a couple leaving
a Chalmette parking lot.

While Carlos Garay, 31, is now behind on attempted murder charges, his two
accomplices, Jose "Alex" Rojas and an unidentified man, are still on the
loose.

The arrests stem from an incident in February when, according to St. Bernard
Chief Deputy Sheriff James Pohlmann, Garay and the two other men allegedly
waited in a Home Depot parking lot for a married couple to leave the store.
Pohlmann said after the couple came in sight, a shooter fired at the couple
as Garay drove behind the wheel.

The couple was not seriously injured, Pohlmann said. They told police they
had moved to Chalmette from El Salvador, where in the 1990s they saw Rojas
kill the male victim's brother, Pohlmann said. The couple said they hadn't
seen Rojas in 15 years before they met with Rojas face-to-face.

Garay is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Anyone with information or Rojas or the unidentified man can call the St.
Bernard Sheriff's Office at (504) 271-2501 or Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
