Leave the Money and Run: 2 arrested after forgetting bag of money in robbery

CHALMETTE, La. - Two men who allegedly robbed a Chalmette diner only to
leave the money behind have been arrested, according to police.

Darbin Maurisio Casto Santos, 22, and Selvin Torres Rodriguez, 24, were
arrested late last month near San Antonio, according to Chief Deputy Sheriff
James Pohlmann. Two others involved in the robbery are still at-large. 

The two were driving the getaway car that was allegedly used in the robbery
when an officer pulled them over for a traffic offense. Pohlmann said the
car had the same license plate that a witness identified after the robbery. 

For the four would-be robbers, it was a Pulp Fiction moment, as a retired
FBI agent was eating lunch on July 18 at the time the robbery took place at
the Gold Star Diner. The agent walked into the back of the store and saw the
robbers tying up the owners and his daughter, Pohlmann said. The robbers
tied him up as well, but he was able to wiggle himself free and then ran
into the dining room. 

At that point the pack split, with two robbers - Santos and Rodriguez -
running out the front and another two who have not been identified escaping
through the back. 

The foursome left the bag of money in the chaos, Pohlmann said. 

The two robbers who made it out of the back door are still at-large,
Pohlmann said.
