Celebrate The Season At Chalmette Battlefield's Malus-Beauregard House

Celebrate the holidays the 1800s way! The Malus-Beauregard House will host a
Yuletide Celebration Saturday and Sunday, December 12 and 13, from 10:00
a.m.-3:00 p.m. The house is located at Chalmette Battlefield, site of the
Battle of New Orleans in 1815 and one of six areas of Jean Lafitte National
Historical Park and Preserve, 8606 West St. Bernard Highway in Chalmette.
The event is free and open to the public. More information is available at
504-589-2636 ext. 1 or at www.nps.gov/jela.

Built in 1833, 18 years after the Battle of New Orleans, the
Malus-Beauregard house was occupied by a succession of different families.
For the Yuletide program, the second floor of the house will be furnished
and decorated as it might have been by the families who lived there in the
1800s. Living history experts in period clothing will portray family
members, discussing their plans for the holidays and telling stories about
their lives. Visitors can make old-fashioned decorations for the house
Christmas tree and for their own homes. Please note that access to the
second floor is by stairs only.

The Malus-Beauregard is currently serving as a temporary visitor center
while a new visitor center is under construction. The battlefield and house
are open 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily. The house and public restrooms are
accessible by a walkway from a visitor parking area at Cannon Battery Four
near the flagpole. The battlefield's Tour Loop Road, visitor center
construction area, Chalmette Monument, and the parking area near the
monument and visitor center are closed. Admission to the site is free. For
more information, call 504-589-2636 ext. 1 or visit www.nps.gov/jela.
