The Corps of Engineers <http://www.mvn.usace.army.mil/> will conduct a
meeting Thursday to discuss improvements to the Caernarvon floodwall in St.
Bernard Parish.
The meeting begins with an open house at 6 p.m. in Braithwaite.
A corps news release said plans for the Caernarvon Floodwall are discussed
in Individual Environmental Report 9, an environmental document that is
currently available for public review and comment on
www.nolaenvironmental.gov. The comment period runs through Dec. 24, 2009.
"The proposed project alignment and many features were developed in
conjunction with local community members and businesses," Christophor
Gilmore, a corps senior project manager, said in the news release. "The
proposed action is a new floodwall alignment to the west of the Caernarvon
Canal, including a tie-in to the Mississippi River levee system and
construction of a 56-foot wide sector gate across the canal."
The open house will be followed by a presentation and discussion. This
meeting will provide an additional venue for the corps to collect comments
and answer questions about the proposed action as it is described in the
environmental document, the corps news release said.
The meeting will be held at Lynn Oaks School, 1 Lynn Oaks Drive, Braithwaite
