La. insurance agent charged in $2.9M theft

Associated Press - December 9, 2009 6:04 PM ET

CHALMETTE, La. (AP) - A Louisiana insurance agent has been charged with
writing dozens of phony auto policies to steal nearly $3 million from
premium finance companies.

State police investigators on Tuesday arrested 40-year-old Jolie Bonvillian,
of Violet, on charges that included three counts of theft, 85 counts of
insurance fraud, 339 counts of bank fraud and 424 counts of forgery. She was
booked into the St. Bernard Parish jail.

Bonvillian allegedly used phony names and drivers license information to
generate 85 fraudulent commercial auto policies and secured agreements from
companies to finance the policies.

Louisiana State Police opened its investigation after receiving a complaint
from Progressive Insurance Co. about the unusual number of auto policies
generated by Bonvillian.
