Christmas Cash Back Program Saturday, December 19 at Civic Center

Shoppers should save receipts to win cash; Sponsoring businesses can sell
goods at event

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro in conjunction with the St.
Bernard Economic Development Foundation is holding the second annual
Christmas Cash Back program in an attempt to boost holiday retail sales in
St. Bernard and give shoppers an incentive to Shop St. Bernard. The cash
give-away event will be Saturday, December 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the
St. Bernard Civic Center Ballroom.

Shoppers should save their retail receipts so they can be tallied from 9
a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Drawings for cash awards will begin at 1 p.m.

“In an effort to continue to promote local holiday shopping in St. Bernard
and to provide assistance in keeping our tax dollars home and to encourage
our neighbors to shop with us in St. Bernard, we in parish government and
the economic development community are sponsoring the second annual
Christmas Cash Back program,” President Taffaro said. “It’s a fairly simple
program meant to encourage local support of our business, especially during
this holiday shopping season.”

¯ Each participating retail business makes a donation to the St. Bernard
Parish Economic Development Foundation, a non-profit arm of the Economic
Development Commission.

¯ Shoppers are encouraged to shop in St. Bernard and keep receipts from
retailers between November 19 and December 19. Shoppers will earn one
raffle ticket for every $100 in receipts.

¯ A Christmas Business gathering will be held Saturday, December 19, 2009
at the Fred Sigur Civic Center Grand Ballroom with shoppers presenting their
receipts for tickets between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and drawings starting at
1 p.m.

¯ The St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation is contributing with a
sponsorship from Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr. The goal is to
raffle several levels of Christmas Cash Back rewards. Businesses that wish
to donate items in lieu of cash can do so, but the emphasis is on a cash
back reward program.

¯ The idea is to promote local shopping and as an incentive – shoppers may
be able to win a little extra Christmas cash. The more the shoppers spend,
the better their chances on winning and the better supported our local
businesses will be.

¯ Each participating business may have a booth to sell their goods at the
event.

The program was announced in mid-November and coordinated the kick-off with
the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Shop St. Bernard Event on
November 19. It will continue until the Christmas program on Saturday,
December 19, 2009.

Any businesses who wish to support this event may send a check to St.
Bernard Economic Development Foundation, 8201 W. Judge Perez Drive,
Chalmette, LA 70043 or call 278-4227 for more information. Businesses that
make a donation may have a table to sell their goods at the event while
shoppers wait for the drawings. All participating businesses will receive
recognition at the program and in any advertising.
