MMS awards CIAP grant to St. Bernard Parish Government

Grant of almost $200,000 to update St. Bernard Coastal Management Plan

The U.S. Minerals Management Service has awarded a grant to St. Bernard
Parish for the updating of the St. Bernard Coastal Management Plan, a
project included in the State's Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP)
Plan.

This award for $199,999.85 will allow St. Bernard to formulate a conceptual
framework for coastal restoration. The document is intended to put in
writing the vision and goals of the St. Bernard Coastal Zone Advisory
Committee.

The St. Bernard Parish Coastal Zone Programmatic Document was one of the
first in the state and it is an example that many have followed since its
original passage in the 1970's. There have been several updates to the St.
Bernard Parish Coastal Zone Programmatic Document. This grant will pay for
it to be updated to be in accordance with the state's Master Plan, which is
important to ensure future coastal money is not jeopardized.

This project meets Authorized Use # 1 - projects and activities for the
conservation, protection or restoration of coastal areas, including
wetlands. Authorized by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the Coastal Impact
Assistance Program allocates and distributes $250 million annually for 2007
through 2010 to coastal states and political subdivisions with oil and gas
production in Federal waters off their coastlines to mitigate the impacts of
oil and gas activities on the Outer Continental Shelf.
