St. Bernard Night at the Hive with the New Orleans Hornets
St. Bernard Parish recently held St. Bernard Night at the Hive with the
Hornets for its recent home game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The night highlighted St. Bernard Parish residents in attendance, many of
whom wore bright teal t-shirts with the wording "St. Bernard Parish SWARMS
the HIVE" that were sold by the St. Bernard Parish Government Events
Committee.
St. Bernard children were able to be on the court at the beginning of the
game to make the tunnel and greet the players as they ran on the court. St.
Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Jr. presented the game ball on the
court to the referee at the start of the game as the players stretched and
prepared to begin play.
Taffaro said he was proud that St. Bernard could be part of such an event.
"St. Bernard's support of the New Orleans Hornets is a part of our
commitment to regional success in the recovery and growth of the entire
metropolitan area and state of Louisiana. We are honored to be a part of
the Hornets organization and activities," Taffaro said.
Tickets were available through parish government and local schools, and
t-shirts were sold for the event, with proceeds benefitting St. Bernard's
Fuel Youth Center.
St. Bernard Parish provided two buses to enable residents to attend the
event, and Taffaro personally paid for each of St. Bernard Parish School's
Students of the Year and one parent to attend the game. These students were
recognized during half-time activities.
The game kicked off with a pre-game performance by Our Lady of Prompt Succor
School's dance team, and the school's chorus took center court to lead the
Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem.
The St. Bernard Health Center bought two tickets to the game for each of its
employees, and several residents were also selected to high-five players as
they returned to the court after half-time.
As St. Bernard residents at New Orleans Arena cheered their Hornets to
victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, St. Bernard Parish also was
recognized by the Hornets for having the highest attendance for this type of
event.
