2010 ST. BERNARD PARISH  TOURIST COMMISSION INSTALLATION

 

The St. Bernard Parish Tourist Commission installed its 2010 Officers and
Commission Members at its February Tourist Commission meeting.  The seven
member volunteer Commission's mission is to market St. Bernard Parish as a
tourist destination promoting its rich history, unique culture, museums,
fairs and festival and recreational opportunities that support our local
economy.

 

The Tourist Commission meets each month to discuss advertising opportunities
which promote St. Bernard Parish. These publications include advertisements
and editorials in Southern Living, Texas Monthly, Louisiana Cookin, Country
Roads magazines as well as ads in the Louisiana Tour Guide, New Orleans Tour
Guide and on their tourism website. The St. Bernard Tourist Commission
members are active in the Louisiana Travel Promotion Association, Louisiana
Conventions and Visitors Bureaus and New Orleans Convention and Visitors
Bureau.

 

The Commission conducts familiarization tours to our area, attends trade
shows and hosts several special events including the Battle of New Orleans
Welcome Center, Redfish Cup, Art in April Festival, Christmas Parade as well
as answer request for thousands of inquiries for tourist information about
our area.  According to the 2008 United States Travel Data Center, St.
Bernard Parish employees approximately 250 people in this travel related
industry and collects approximately $510,000 in local tax revenues.


 

This year, the Tourist Commission will be partnering with the University of
New Orleans to develop a Tourism Strategic Plan.  In the coming months they
will conduct a series of public workshops to gather input from local tourism
stakeholders on future tourism development in St. Bernard Parish.
