Violet Park No. 2 Grand Opening Held

Rebuilt park includes resodded field, new covered spectator stands and a new
building to house a concession stand and restrooms

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Jr. and Parish Council members
held a Grand Opening on the grounds of the newly constructed Violet Park No.
2.

"Rebuilding this park is an important social and recreational outlet for the
Violet community," President Taffaro said. "It is a critical part of our
recovery."

The project involved completely rebuilding the park that had been decimated
by Hurricane Katrina. The work included completely resodding the field,
erecting new fencing and building two new dug outs. In addition, a newly
paved and covered spectator area was built adjacent to a building housing a
new concession stand and restrooms elevated 3 feet above adjacent grade
complete with handicapped ramps. The site also includes two new paved
handicapped parking spots and a new roadway that encircles the facility to
increase off-street parking availability.

The parish especially honored the family of the late Gatien Livaudais and
Borgnemouth Realty for gracious generosity and partnership in the use of the
property with the unveiling of a permanent plaque of gratitude mounted on
the wall of the brand new concession stand and restroom facility.

The facility was designed by Meyer Engineers and was constructed by MDM
Services Corporation. James Thomas of Camp Dresser & McKee Inc. is the
project manager. President Taffaro said several departments worked together
on this project including Recovery Director Michael Dorris Jr. and his
staff, Recreation Director John Rahaim and his staff and staff members of
the St. Bernard Public Works Department under Parish Acting Director of
Public Works Logan Martin, as well as Parish Council members Fred Everhardt,
Wayne Landry and Frank Auderer.

Additional improvements to the facility are being planned to increase
playground equipment, parking and other site amenities.
