St. Bernard Parish holds a construction ground breaking for the Aycock
Barn/Open Air Market

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr. and the Parish Council
marked the Construction Ground Breaking at the Aycock Barn/Open Air Market
in the historic district of Old Arabi.

The project at 409 Aycock Street involves $2.1 million of work to convert
the Aycock Barn into a family-friendly open air market complete with vendors
and a pop-up fountains for the children.

"This project will be a welcome addition in this historic part of Old Arabi
and another important step in our Growth and Recovery," President Taffaro
said.

Mark Landry, FEMA's Acting Director for the Louisiana Transitional Recovery
Office, said in all of his years with FEMA and with the Coast Guard prior to
FEMA, he has never seen an organization produce the results that he has seen
in St. Bernard Parish.

"The pace that St. Bernard has set has been far ahead of anyone else in the
region," Landry said.

In addition to the Construction Ground Breaking at the Aycock Barn/Open Air
Market, President Taffaro marked four other parish government recovery
celebrations in March: the grand opening of the Islenos Museum Complex, the
grand opening of Violet Park No. 2, and the grand openings of both the
Parish Maintenance Garage and Maintenance Shed, a total of more than $6.5
million in federal, state and local recovery dollars meant to move the
parish forward and restore it to its pre-Katrina glory.

President Taffaro said several departments are working together on this
project including Recovery Director Michael Dorris Jr. and his staff,
Recreation Director John Rahaim and his staff, including Tourism Director
Gidget McDougall and her Assistant Faith Moran, and staff members of the St.
Bernard Public Works Department under Acting Director of Public Works Logan
Martin.

Icon Construction Group LLC is in charge of the construction and the firm of
Sizeler Thompson Brown Architects is responsible for its design. Jon
Risinger is the project manager for CDM and Dennis Tauzin is the program
manager for CDM, which provides oversight for all FEMA-funded projects, and
Keith LaGrange of the St. Bernard Parish Public Works Department is the
resident inspector.
