St. Bernard Parish holds two grand openings - celebrating the completion of
both the Public Works Maintenance Garage and the Public Works Shed

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr. and the Parish Council
held two grand openings - celebrating the completion of both the Public
Works Maintenance Garage and the Public Works Shed.

The grand opening of the Parish Maintenance Garage at 120 Agriculture Street
off of Paris Road in Chalmette is a $651,300 project that involved the
renovation of a key public works building.

Additionally, the ribbon cutting for the grand opening of the adjacent
Maintenance Shed, which followed the brief ceremony at the Maintenance
Garage, was for a project that cost $380,800 and involved key renovations
for a facility also used by the parish's public works department.

"These two facilities are important to the mission of the Public Works
Department, and it's a good day to see this work completed," President
Taffaro said.

Eddie Williams, FEMA's Division Supervisor for Katrina and Rita, said
because he has been in the area since right after Katrina, he remembers when
the parish was still covered in the soft mud from the floods.

"Every time you have one of these ribbon cuttings, it shows that St. Bernard
is strong, alive and coming back."

Assistant Director of Public Works Louis Pomes and Public Works Foreman
Martin Onidas thanked the contractors and the employees for their help in
getting the projects completed.

In addition to the grand openings of both the Parish Maintenance Garage and
Maintenance Shed, President Taffaro marked three other recovery celebrations
in March: the grand opening of the Islenos Museum Complex, the Grand Opening
of Violet Park No. 2, and the Construction Ground Breaking at the Aycock
Barn/Open Air Market, a total of more than $6.5 million in federal, state
and local recovery dollars meant to move the parish forward and restore it
to its pre-Katrina glory.

President Taffaro said several departments worked together on this project
including Recovery Director Michael Dorris Jr. and his staff, and staff
members of the St. Bernard Public Works Department under Parish Acting
Director of Public Works Logan Martin and Assistant Public Works Director
Louis Pomes.

T-Mac Construction is the contractor for the maintenance garage and the
contractor for the maintenance shed is E.J. Milligan Construction. Perez APC
and Krebs-LaSalle-LeMieux Architects are the architectural firms responsible
for the design. Drayfus Guient is the project manager for CDM, which
provides oversight for all FEMA-funded projects, and Keith LaGrange of the
St. Bernard Parish Public Works Department is the resident inspector.
