HazMat Classes for Teams 20, 21, 23 24 and 25

Attention All St. Bernard Fishermen in the St. Bernard Vessels of
Opportunity Program

Three-day, 40-hour HazMat training classes are now being held for fishermen
involved in the St. Bernard Vessels of Opportunity Program. The teams that
are not currently on rotation are being scheduled for this class. That means
the only team that does not need to be scheduled for training at this time
is Team 22. Teams 20, 21, 23, 24 and 25 must call the St. Bernard Oil Spill
Call Center at 504-277-4911 to schedule for training. Team 22 will be
scheduled for training once its work rotation is completed. Captains must
have the names of their deckhands available, and those deckhands also must
attend the training. Captains should provide these names to the Call Center
so that deckhands can be scheduled for the training.

Captains and the deckhands they have identified to the Call Center must
contact the Call Center to be scheduled and to be enrolled in the classes.
Only those enrolled will be allowed to attend. No one should go to the
training unless they have been scheduled to attend that day's class because
classes have a limited capacity.

Fishermen attending the training classes will be paid $200 a day to attend.
Anyone who is late will not be admitted. Classes for Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday start at 7 a.m. at the Frederick J. Sigur Civic Center Grand
Ballroom at 3220 Jean Lafitte Parkway in Chalmette. Classes for Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday also start at 7 a.m. in the same location.

Fishermen participating in the program need to have passed a drug test and
medical screening before they can receive their HazMat card, but it does not
need to be done before they begin training. Fishermen who already passed a
drug test as previously ordered do not need to submit to another. The drug
test will be done as part of the medical screening. Medical screenings are
being done at the Industrial Medicine Building at 8101 W. Judge Perez Drive
in Chalmette. The office accepts walk-ins, and the phone number is
504-281-2800. There is no cost to the fishermen for the screening or drug
test, and the visit should only takes 10 to 20 minutes.
