There was an old lady who swallowed a shell, or that's what Lucille Colandro
says in her book of the same title. We're not sure why she swallowed a
shell because she didn't tell. Library friends can find out the reason why
by attending the 'Shell Game' story program on Tuesday and Wednesday at the
St. Bernard Parish Library. Also putting in a special appearance will be
Happy the turtle. Story sessions are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on
Tuesday, June 15th and at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16th. All story
sessions take place at the library's temporary location of 7701 W. Judge
Perez Dr. in Arabi.

Puppets Amuck is the Friday, June 18th special performance presented by
Hobgoblin Hill Puppets, a traveling troupe formed in 1987 by Alice Wallace
in Youngsville, Louisiana, with a unique style of hand-carved and sculpted
puppets in researched historic costumes. Since that time, the group has
brought quality puppetry to festivals, libraries, museums, schools, parks,
and zoos. The style of puppetry of the troupe is a wide variety of humorous
or satirical skits based on popular fairy tales, which appeal to adults as
well as children. Improvisation and audience participation make it a lively
show for everybody. Show time is set for 10 a.m. at the St. Bernard Council
on Aging, 8201 W. Judge Perez Dr., in Chalmette.

All library programs are free and open to the public. Friday's artistic
performance is sponsored by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts,
Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and
Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered
by the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs

Readers of all ages are invited to visit the library at to sign up to play
Reading Bingo. Game players ranging from pre-readers thru 12th graders who
complete their reading bingo cards will receive a certificate of completion
along with McDonalds' coupons. They will also be entered into the library's
prize drawing to be held at the end of the summer reading program. Adult
readers completing their own bingo games will also be eligible for a prize
drawing in late July. A calendar of library activities is also available.
Library hours are Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 9
a.m. to 5 p.m. For additional information, please call 504-279-0448.
