St. Bernard Continues Ongoing Boom Deployment/Reconnaissance and Repair

St. Bernard Parish Supports its Neighboring Parish's Response Efforts

Registration Information is needed for Captains and Deckhands



In St. Bernard Parish waters today, 181 vessels worked to conduct boom
deployment, reconnaissance and repair, trawling operations and pollution
investigation. Crews deployed approximately 17,000 feet of hard oil
containment boom in St. Bernard over the past few days. There is
approximately 60,000 feet of hard oil containment boom currently staged to
be deployed strategically by the USES/USMS St. Bernard Fishing Vessel Fleet
Response. Additionally, 30,000 feet of hard oil containment boom is being
set aside for use by vessels that will be involved in skimming operations as
the need arises.



St. Bernard Parish has been supporting Plaquemines Parish oil spill
operations in zones 13, 14, and 15. Approximately 20,000 feet of hard oil
containment boom has been deployed in these zones by St. Bernard Parish. In
support of oil spill operations in Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard Parish is
currently loading 25,000 feet of hard oil containment boom which will be
sent to Lafitte.


Eligible vessel owners who wish to participate in USES/USMS St. Bernard
Fishing Vessel Fleet Response need to register their qualified captains and
deckhands. Crew members can be registered at the morning safety meetings at
Delacroix, Hopedale and Shell Beach or at the GRS office located on the
second floor of the Gulf Coast Bank Building at 1801 E. Judge Perez Drive in
Chalmette. The GRS telephone number is 504-569-1905.


Documents required for crew members to be to eligible for work:

. Provide proof of identification: Driver's License or
Identification Card

. Completed W-9 form

. Copy of Social Security Card


Qualification to be eligible for work:

. Work badge (St. Bernard Parish)

. Complete 40-hour HazMat training course

. Drug Screened

. Complete physical examination
