[StBernard] A road to economic oblivion

Yesterday, Andarko Petroleum Corp. announced that it is looking to move three deepwater drilling rigs out of the gulf to other places around the world. This is in direct reaction to President Obama's six months or longer drilling moratorium. With the departure of these rigs will be thousands of good-paying jobs. <http://www.kintera.org/TR.asp?a=hrKRI0OGLfIQKfJ&s=epKLJROxHhKRKWPrFjG&m=4nJCLOMmH8JJI0J>

Charlie Melancon is supporting this road to economic oblivion.

First, he staunchly defends the President after the moratorium was announced:
"Rep. Charlie Melancon, said it's important that if there is to be a six-month moratorium, it not stretch on well beyond that time." (Times-Picayune, 6/8/10).

Then he bashes the oil companies for reacting to the Obama moratorium:
"…the people that have been and worked in this industry and for this industry and supported it, it's now kind of like, okay, you screwed up our gulf, you screwed up our marshes, and now you say just because they want to shut you down for a short period of time, you take your toys and you're going to go somewhere else," said Melancon. (MSNBC Interview 6/4/10)

"Through the years, we've allowed for the oil industry to ruin our wetlands... Then, they say, 'Now that this is all screwed up and you don't want us to drill for a while, we're going to take our rigs and move,'" said Melancon. (WDSU, 6/5/10)

Apparently, he believes the companies are the problem, not President Obama and his moratorium.

Once again, Charlie Melancon sides with President Obama and against Louisiana. <http://www.kintera.org/TR.asp?a=ddJJLOMqFcJAIUK&s=epKLJROxHhKRKWPrFjG&m=4nJCLOMmH8JJI0J> He forgets about Louisiana to defend his allies in Washington.

Rest assured, Senator Vitter is fighting this destructive moratorium every way he can

Sen. Vitter has spoken directly to President Obama and Secretary Salazar, calling on them to lift the moratorium of deepwater exploration and replace it with immediate rigorous safety inspections.

Join me and Sen. Vitter in our efforts to stop Obama's offshore moratorium and save Louisiana jobs. <http://www.kintera.org/TR.asp?a=ggLPIXNCLfIHK4J&s=epKLJROxHhKRKWPrFjG&m=4nJCLOMmH8JJI0J>

Yours Truly ,
