Dear Friends,

As this terrible disaster continues to unfold in the Gulf, I am fighting
every day to keep BP honest, and to stop the federal government from taking
drastic steps that would even further devastate our economy. Read below to
learn more about my efforts, and please share this message with your
friends.

Fighting for Louisiana Jobs

As President Obama's fourth visit to the Gulf again focuses the nation's
attention on the ongoing BP catastrophe, Sen. Landrieu is working tirelessly
to bring the voice of Louisianians to all Americans

Several weeks ago, Sen. Landrieu introduced commonsense legislation
<http://landrieu.enews.senate.gov/mail/util.cfm?mailaction=clickthru&gpiv=21
00059398.5308.106&gen=1&mailing_linkid=12002> that would immediately give
Louisiana its fair share of offshore oil and gas revenue-a bill that gained
the support

00059398.5308.106&gen=1&mailing_linkid=12003> of the Times-Picayune.

This past week, Sen. Landrieu has been pushing the Obama administration to
reverse its 6-month moratorium on deepwater drilling. During a hearing with
Interior Department Secretary Ken Salazar

00059398.5308.106&gen=1&mailing_linkid=12004> , Sen. Landrieu asked why the
administration pushed forward with the moratorium when its own experts did
not endorse it. At a time when Louisiana is already coping with the worst
ecological disaster in American history, a moratorium of at least six months
would wreak unspeakable havoc on the state's already fragile economy, and
would cause thousands of people to lose their jobs.

Sen. Landrieu then sent a letter

00059398.5308.106&gen=1&mailing_linkid=12005> (PDF) to President Obama
asking him

00059398.5308.106&gen=1&mailing_linkid=12006> to "consider instead a series
of fundamental changes to offshore drilling practices that will serve to
demonstrably reduce the risk of deepwater drilling while sparing the Gulf
Coast's economic vitality."

In addition to providing viable alternatives to a moratorium, the letter
also requested

00059398.5308.106&gen=1&mailing_linkid=12007> that President Obama allow 33
low-risk deep-water idled projects to resume drilling.

Making Our Case to the Nation

Sen. Landrieu understands that it is not enough to take Louisiana's message
to the President alone. So last week, she appeared on Good Morning America

00059398.5308.106&gen=1&mailing_linkid=12009> to reiterate how devastating
an open-ended moratorium would be to Louisiana's families and businesses.

In an editorial today, the Times-Picayune agreed
<http://landrieu.enews.senate.gov/mail/util.cfm?mailaction=clickthru&gpiv=21
00059398.5308.106&gen=1&mailing_linkid=12000> , writing, "the Obama
administration should replace this ban with measures that will improve
safety without choking our economy." Thankfully, there are now promising
signs

00059398.5308.106&gen=1&mailing_linkid=11999> that Louisiana's unified
voice is getting through.

But until Louisiana and its people are made whole, Sen. Landrieu will
continue to hold BP accountable, while fighting burdensome and overreaching
governmental regulation.
