Gov. Jindal, St. Bernard President and local leaders ask for a plan

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and affected parish leaders conducted a
flyover of Lake Pontchartrain, the Rigolets and Chef Menteur Pass on
Tuesday. They held a press conference after the flyover to renew their call
for protective rock barriers to be constructed in Barataria Bay and to ask
that the US Coast Guard, BP and the federal government come up with a plan
if the current plan presented will not be approved.

"So far we've not heard an alternative plan; all we've seen is bureaucracy
and roadblocks," Jindal said at the news conference Tuesday, three days
after the Army Corps of Engineers formally turned down Jefferson Parish's
proposal to build two rock barriers in Barataria Bay. "We have told them
'no' is not an answer, 'no' is not a plan, 'no' is not acceptable."

"We have been at this for two months now. When we take a step back and look,
there have been some successes. To date, I have yet to receive a manual of a
plan that this is what the anticipated outcome is going to be," St. Bernard
Parish President Craig Taffaro said at the press conference. "So I'm going
to set a date and ask the highest official from BP, Coast Guard and any
other agency involved to please come and present detailed activities and
expenditures to save our coast. I would hope that that plan exists already.
I would hope that this plan will be on my desk when I get back to oil spill
operations in Hopedale today."
