Chalmette to shut some units due to poor market conditions
Thu Aug 26, 2010 2:21pm GMT

NEW YORK Aug 26 (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM.N: Quote) said it will
close down some redundant process units at its 196,000 barrel per day
refinery in Chalmette, Louisiana due to poor market conditions.
"The refinery will focus on production that is sustainable in both long- and
short-term market conditions. We will cease operating redundant processing
units and other facilities that we do not expect to be economic for the
foreseeable future," said Kevin Allexon, a spokesman for the company, in an
e-mail to Reuters.

The refinery will remain at current capacity but the workforce will be
reduced by about 70 positions. There will also be cuts in contractor
positions. (Reporting by Janet McGurty; Editing by John Picinich)
