bird survey seminar to be held this Sunday in New Orleans

The LSU School of Renewable Natural Resources, LSU Bird Resource Center,
National Audubon Society, and Baton Rouge Audubon Society have developed a
Citizen Science project to collect information on how the Deepwater Horizon
oil spill has impacted coastal waterbird communities.

To involve more local aspiring birders in this effort, LSU Biologist Erik
Johnson will lead a seminar for novice and intermediate level birders to
discuss data collection methods and coastal waterbird identification,
including herons, terns, and shorebirds. A three-hour indoor orientation
session will be followed by bird watching and applying survey methodology in
a nearby area.

Where: Dillard University, Stern Building Room 12
2601 Gentilly Blvd.
New Orleans, LA 70122
When: Sunday, September 19th from 1:00-4:00pm, followed by the outdoor
portion
RSVP: Lexie Montgomery, lexiejm at gmail.com <mailto:lexiejm at gmail.com>

Registration is FREE and all are welcome. The seminar is open to those new
to the survey effort as well as those that are interested in learning. If
you have binoculars, please bring them.

If you have any questions, please call Lexie Montgomery, Louisiana Volunteer
Coordinator for the National Audubon Society, at (917) 270-2977.
