A Lafayette man wanted for the attempted murder of a New Iberia teenager was
arrested Wednesday outside an apartment complex in St. Bernard Parish,
according to a news release.

Deputies who had gone to the complex on an unrelated matter -- nabbed
25-year-old Matthew Gotch, a man with a history of violence and drug-dealing
arrests, Chief Deputy Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Gotch allegedly fired multiple shots at an 18-year-old man in December in
Lafayette and hit him once. He was wanted for attempted second-degree
murder, Pohlmann said. Gotch said he has been living in Metairie.

He will be held in St. Bernard Parish Prison until Lafayette authorities
pick him up, Pohlmann said.
While detectives were at the Mehle Avenue apartments there was a disturbance
in an apartment. Detectives investigated and found four men and a handgun.
One of the men is Dudley Gaines, 30, of New Orleans. Gotch had just given
Gaines a ride to the apartments, Pohlmann said.
Gaines has a sex offense conviction and was not in compliance with a
requirement that he notify authorities of his current address, Pohlmann
said. Gaines was booked on a sex offense non-compliance charge.
Gaines as well as two others staying in the apartment -- Justin Plessy, 20,
and Quincy Robertson Jr., 22 -- were booked with being convicted felons in
possession of a firearm.
