The Sugar Festival has received a $2,500 grant from the Louisiana Tourism
Coastal Coalition to promote the St. Bernard Parish event. The Louisiana
Tourism Coastal Coalition (LTCC) comprised of 10 coastal parishes formed on
June 16, 2010 to lead the effort to mitigate tourism losses along the
Louisiana coast. A portion of the BP funds were dedicated to market and
promote the state's nature based tourism products including the support of
Louisiana coastal fairs and festivals. A grant process was implemented to
help these festivals, and this month, $2,500 was awarded to support the Old
Arabi Sugar Fest to be held on Saturday, May 21st, 2011 on the grounds of
LeBeau Plantation in Arabi. The Sugar Festival committee will use the grant
to market and promote the Sugar Festival outside of a 50-mile radius to
increase tourism visitation to St. Bernard.
