St. Bernard Parish Tourist Commission celebrates National Tourism Awareness
Week



The St. Bernard Parish Tourist Commission will celebrate National Tourism
Awareness Week, May 16th - May 21st with a week of activities at the new St.
Bernard Parish Visitor Information Center in the Old Arabi Historic
District, 409 Aycock Street, Arabi, LA. The public is invited to visit St.
Bernard's first Visitor Center between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
and meet the "St. Bernard Faces of Tourism," enjoy complimentary
refreshments, pick up tourist information about upcoming events, receive
free goodies and learn how tourism supports our local economy.



Friday, May 20th will mark the official ribbon cutting of the new Visitor
Information Center and Saturday the St. Bernard Seafood and Farmers' Market
will open from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. The 3rd annual Old Arabi Sugar Festival
will kick off at 11 a.m. on the grounds of the nearby LeBeau Plantation. The
Tourist Commission will again be offering complimentary tours of Old Arabi
during the Sugar Festival from noon until 5 p.m.



Festivities for National Tourism Awareness week in St. Bernard include:

Monday - May 16th Captain Jack Payne "Sweetwater Guide Service" -
Fishing in St. Bernard

Noon - 2 p.m.



Tuesday - May 17th Dot Benge and Bertin Esteves "Islenos Museum" -
Culture of St. Bernard

Noon - 2 p.m.



Wed. - May 18th Tony Hall, St. Bernard State Park and Cidney
Webster, Chalmette

Noon - 2 p.m. Battlefield - Parks of St. Bernard



Thurs. - May 19th Cisco Gonzales - Louisiana Crawfish Festival -
Festivals of St. Bernard

Noon - 2 p.m. "Cooking Demonstration"



Friday - May 20th President Craig Taffaro will hold Visitor Center
Ribbon Cutting at 4 p.m.

4 p.m. - 6 p.m. New Tourism Products in St. Bernard



Saturday - May 21st Seafood and Farmers' Market Opening - 8 a.m. - 11
a.m.

Sugar Festival Opens - 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Tours of Old Arabi Historic District -
Noon - 5 p.m.
