3RD ANNUAL OLD ARABI SUGAR FEST TO BE HELD SATURDAY, MAY 21

The grounds of the LeBeau Plantation to host event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.



Commemorating over 100 years of sugar refining in St. Bernard Parish, the
Old Arabi Neighborhood Association and St. Bernard Parish Government Office
of Tourism will host the 3rd annual Old Arabi Sugar Fest on the grounds of
the LeBeau Plantation, Saturday, May 21 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. The
festival celebrates sugar and the importance of this industry to our local
economy. Again this year, Domino Sugar will be the major corporate sponsor
of the event and will display its sugar products, vintage photographs and
talks about the history of sugar refining. The festival will feature a
variety of great local food, a dessert competition for cookies, pies and
cakes, arts and crafts, children's activities including sugar sack races,
face painting and cupcake decorating.



Live music on the Domino Stage will feature:

What's new this year is the "Signature Dessert" created by pastry Chef Doyle
DeForest, an umbrella decorating contest and the 2011 Sugar Fest Poster
painted by St. Bernard Art Guild artist Elaine Hodges. The limited edition
posters and t-shirts will be on sale the day of the festival. The St.
Bernard Parish Tourist Commission will also host a complimentary guided tour
of the Old Arabi Historic District with a stop at the new St. Bernard Parish
Visitor Information Center on Aycock Street in Old Arabi and the site of the
Seafood and Farmers' Market.



All proceeds benefit the Old Arabi Historic District and improvements and
preservation of its architecture and history. For more information about
