River levels could delay traffic between N.O. and St. Bernard

Dave Cohen Reporting
If you are traveling between New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish, you may run
into unexpected delays. Authorities say the river flooding has more vessels
traveling on the Intracoastal Waterway.

"The possibility of the bridge going up is likely, during rush hour traffic,
on the St. Claude Bridge and the Florida Avenue Bridge," according to St.
Bernard Chief Deputy Jimmy Pohlmann.

He says people should consider avoiding those bridges for the next few days
as use alternates like I-510.

"The Captain of the Port of New Orleans has suspended the bridge curfew for
the rush hour traffic," Pohlmann explained.

He says St. Bernard deputies and NOPD are positioned on both sides of the
bridges to help move traffic, but there will be extra delays.
