Free Weatherization Assistance for St Bernard Parish residents

Staff from the St Tammany Parish Community Action Agency will be at the Community Center of St Bernard, 1111 LeBeau St, Arabi, on July 11, July 18, July 25, and August 1 to help St Bernard Parish residents receive assistance with weatherizing their homes to reduce utility bills.

The St Tammany staff will be available from 10 AM until 3 PM and no appointment is necessary to apply for assistance. Residents will need to bring a current picture ID, Social Security cards for everyone in their household, proof of income for all household members, and a 12 month printout of their electricity or gas bill.

The Weatherization Assistance is limited to families whose monthly income is less than $1805 for a single person, $2428.33 for a household of 2, $3051.67 for a household of 3, and $3675 for a household of 4. Priority is given to the elderly (over age 60), disabled persons, and families with children age 5 and under.

Single-family homes, Multi-family dwellings, Mobile Homes, Renters, and Home owners are all eligible to apply. Typical assistance may include installing attic insulation, repairing minor water leaks, air sealing around windows & doors, updating to fluorescent bulbs, solar screens, carbon monoxide detectors, weather stripping and installing smoke detectors. Work is done by local contractors at no cost to the homeowner or renter.
