ree Cell Phones for Low-Income Families Available on July 15

The nonprofit Community Center of St Bernard will distribute free cell phones to local low-income families on Friday, July 15. The phones will be available from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Community Center of St Bernard, 1111 LeBeau Street in Arabi. Please park in the Dollar General parking lot to avoid traffic jams and congestion.

These phones are being provided through the Lifeline Program, which enables qualifying customers to receive discounted or free monthly telephone service. To qualify for a free phone, residents must receive at least one of the following government assistance programs:
Food Stamps/SNAP; Medicaid; Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF); Low-Income Home Energy Program (LIHEP); Supplemental Security Income (SSI); Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA) or Sect. 8; or the National School Lunch Program’s Free Lunch Program.

Qualifying individuals will receive a free cell phone with 250 voice minutes which will automatically be replenished each month. There is no annual contract and individuals can keep their current landline or cell phone number. All phones include caller id, voicemail, 911 access, and call-waiting. For more information about the free cell phones available through the Lifeline Program, please phone 1-800-392-3850.

Anyone who does not qualify for a free phone through the Lifeline Program may be able to purchase a cell phone at a reduced price through the Community Center's website at www.ccstb.org/wireless.
