JY, Slumlords are the worse of the lot because they "should know better" but
know there's bucks steadily coming from subsidized housing (at OUR expense),
don't mind pi$$ing off the populace (again, US), and possibly get to live
outside of the area (away from the community <say, didn't Dean own property
inside Village Square <G>?) as well.

Now you'd think that the slumlords are solely to blame, right? HUD,
government interference in "dividing and conquering" if you believe that
bringing in the less than desirable elements into the community will keep
them away from bulk gatherings for welfare queens, gangs, etc.

However, once Village Square got beyond the 70's and the Feds mixed them
into other communities, blacks would not be the only ones who would share
the N*****, title. Because whites started feeding into the drugs, loafing,
and in the process entitled themselves to be denigrated in status, etc.
We've seen the Federal government "enslave" all the races into a tight
little bundle hoping time would remove racism and prejudice. It hasn't
because both blacks AND whites have lowered their standards and can be
equally as trashy. (hence, it's not all about race, but class distinction,
acceptance of equality at the ultimate level of substandard living, housing,
and crime (aka drug use, capital crimes, etc.).

Having studied criminology, as well as sociology, and lived for 65 years,
I've seen changes most of you have not in life experience. I've seen better
days where fear wasn't a daily factor, where doors were kept unlocked,
hanging out was innocent (at least more innocent without drugs, and throw in
a bottle of ripple or so on Saturday<G>), and people actually gave a s***
about others.

To your question of responsibility, it is the Slumlords, the Feds, the local
government AND the community who must set community standards (according to
the Supreme Court Decision s) in court decisions such as was decided in
1973's "obscenity cases, (ie Miller v. California,) which establishes a
standard for what communities should set as a standard for "white trash" or
"Negro Trash" as to what is considered obscene to them and folks. And
there's more if we do our research.

Shouldn't we, the people, have a given privilege (as it is a right from
God) to determine what we feel is wrongly force-fed us? Yes, because
we're into this mess (Feds vs. St. Bernard Parish) because standards hare
nudged ever lower with time passage to a point that if we're quiet about our
community long enough, maybe that nudge will satisfy the gradual decline of
standards with "mix-'n-match, inter-coupling, and not notice how slightly we
got to this point. Hence, the socialist (once liberals and in the
pre-1960's, the Demos), get to fulfill their agenda set mid-1800's to
disgrace the South.

We as people have the right to resist with our moral fortitude. We as a
community also that that right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness which
is deprived of us as the Feds mandate what is proper or desirable in the
socialists' dream for Utopia.

Once, the people was the deciding factor. Now the Feds lead us past disgrace
and ridicule with this issue because we didn't realize that a Penny taken
from someone was ever so slight. But collect a penny from each of the
citizens of America and it plays out to a great deal at some point.
Noticeable only at some point, in fact. Geez, how'd we ever get to this
point?? -- Probably because we caved, but more so because creeping up on us
can be ever so subtle.

Village Sq. Part 2, is now in session.

Question for you Jerry: What about the *owners* of those properties in
Village Square? Don't they hold a degree of responsibility for what the
area became?
