Former St. Bernard Parish Councilman Michael Bayham has announced he will be
a candidate for the 103rd District seat on the Louisiana House of
Representatives. The election is Oct. 22.

Bayham, 37, was on the council from 2001 to 2004 and has represented the
103rd District on the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee since
1996, he said in a news release.

The district includes all of St. Bernard Parish, part of Plaquemines Parish
and some areas of eastern New Orleans, including Venetian Isles, Village de
l'Est and Lake Catherine. Current Rep. Reed Henderson is not seeking
re-election.

"Our area needs to have a proactive representative in the State Capitol, not
someone who will do the bare minimum and look busy during an election
year,'' Bayham said. "I am committed to providing the high level of
representation all of the communities of District 103 deserve and have not
received."

Bayham added: "I am the only candidate who has an existing working
relationship with Gov. Bobby Jindal and Republican and Democratic members of
the Louisiana Legislature. I am also the only candidate who has advocated on
behalf of St. Bernard Parish in both Baton Rouge and Washington."

Bayham said he will push legislation that will expand job opportunities and
oppose all tax increases.

"As a fiscal and social conservative, I support bills that reflect the
conservative philosophy of the people of the district and state," he said.

Bayham, a grant writer, is a graduate of Holy Cross High School and
Louisiana State University. Bayham has been endorsed by former U.S. Rep.
Joseph Cao, R-New Orleans.
