Chalmette attorney John Finckbeiner has announed he will seek the office of
assessor in St. Bernard Parish. The election is Oct. 22.

"My candidacy for assessor is based upon three principles: professionalism,
fairness and trust," Finckbeiner, 53, said in a news release. "I will create
an atmosphere of responsiveness and trust between the assessor's office and
homeowners while embracing new technology to make the office more
transparent and user-friendly."

Finckbeiner said he will not tolerate any conflicts of interest or
favoritism in the office and is committed to providing fair assessments to
all.

Incumbent Marlene Vinsanau has announced she will not seek reelection.

Finckbeiner is a graduate of Chalmette High School and Loyola University. He
earned his law degree from the Southern University Law Center and has had a
law practice in St. Bernard for 22 years.

Finckbeiner served on the Saint Bernard Citizens Recovery Committee after
Hurricane Katrina and was chairman of the Environmental Committee, which
recommended the closure of the MRGO and the restoration of the parish's
wetlands.

"My legal training and longtime civic involvement have prepared me to
efficiently perform the duties of this important office," Finckbeiner said.

Finckbeiner said he can be reached at 504.279.5177 or at his website,
www.assessorstbernard.com.
