He has never held public office, correct. He has not been able to conjure enough votes from his peers. His name is always on a ballot and that equals career politician. Again a good guy. But good guys finish where?
Either one of these guys are a good choice and would attempt to make 'our' area a priority in the eyes of the State legislature. Just vote. Do not whine if you decide not to.

You must have Garofalo confused with someone else.  He has never held public office or any political position.  Isn't Lauga some sort of political lobbyist for a big labor union or something?
